Asphalt Shingles

The most popular roofing material for homeowners are asphalt shingles. Asphalt shingles are a very attractive option for many people due to their affordability, durability, customization options, and availability. They can be designed in many ways to fit your personal style and the style of your home. You can find asphalt shingles in rough or smooth finishes, many different colors, and in just about any shape you can think of! Asphalt shingles are one of the most customizable roofing materials, with almost everything about them being able to be altered to fit any style. We can show you many options and help you decide on what works best for you and your home.  There are some downsides to asphalt shingles, though. They only last for about 15-30 years, and they are very susceptible to damage from wind or extreme temperatures. They are also not very environmentally friendly, due to being petroleum based. Even with the downsides, asphalt shingles are still an excellent option that is used by many homeowners in Utah and elsewhere. There are two types currently available. They are:  

• Fiberglass: Consists of a fiberglass base that is coated with a layer of asphalt. Normally, there are UV-reflecting ceramic pieces mixed In to prevent color damage from the sun.
• Organic: Organic shingles are made of recycled materials, normally recycled paper. Asphalt is layered over the recycled base to create a waterproof barrier. Organic shingles are usually a bit more expensive, but they are still an affordable option for eco-conscious homeowners.
